SMATHERS 1936 - 2009 Lloyd George Smathers of Red Deer, AB passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the age of 73 years. Lloyd was born at home in Bay Tree, AB on July 16, 1936. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jean, as well as his two sons; Leroy (Brenda) of Red Deer, AB and Floyd (Marcee) of Red Deer, AB and his daughter, Darcy Siemens of Vernon. BC. Lloyd's memory will be forever cherished by his grandchildren; Crystal (Jay), Corey, Rylee Shae and Gradyn of Red Deer, AB; and Taylor of Vernon, BC. Lloyd will be missed by his brother, Douglas (Elisa) Smathers of Kamloops, BC and his sister, Pearl Link of Creston, BC. He was predeceased by his parents; Richard and Olive Smathers and two brothers; Glen and Terence. He was loved by numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law, Eva Gertrude. Lloyd's passions were his family and extended to the outdoors and Rebels hockey. After a courageous battle with cancer, Lloyd slipped away to find peace from his pain. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. In respect of Lloyd's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Cremation has taken place. At a later date, Lloyd requested to be buried in the Peace Country near his brother.
