SMITH, 1919- 2007 Mr. John R. Smith of Delburne, Alberta, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, on Monday, May 21, 2007, at the age of 87 years. John was born on September 7, 1919 at Delburne, Alberta. He grew up in the Gaetz Valley District, then attended business school in Calgary, Alberta. John returned to Delburne where he worked in the post office until joining the Postal Corps during World War II. Upon returning home from the war, John joined his father and brother to work on the farm in Delburne. John was a man who loved to keep active, spending time with his horses and taking part in various community organizations. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge (Sixty Year Jewel) and Eastern Star. John will always be remembered for his great memory, his kindness, a very giving spirit and the outgoing attitude that made everyone feel welcome. He is survived by his loving daughter, Beth (Jaye) Smale, a granddaughter, Trish (Shaun) Fjeldsted, a grandson, John Smale, a great grandson, Aidan all of Brandon, Manitoba, a sister-in-law, Goldie Lee of Lousana, Alberta, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Edith, sister, Isabel Andrews and brother, Sidney Smith. Interment Services will be held at the Delburne Cemetery on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Delburne United Church, Delburne, Alberta on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
