SONTAG In the early morning hours of February 5, 2006, peacefully at the Red Deer Nursing Home, with her loving family near, Martha's spirit took flight to eternity, at the age of 95 years. Martha was born April 12, 1910, in Marinkov, Poland. In 1929 Martha and her younger brother Arnold immigrated to Alberta. She worked in Edmonton, Leduc, and Lacombe. In 1932 she married Daniel Sontag in Edmonton and they moved to Sylvan Lake where Dan had a barbershop. Martha loved Sylvan Lake and it was her home until 1999 when she moved to the Red Deer Nursing Home. Martha will be sadly missed and her memory will be forever cherished by her three children Betty Whitterson of Calgary, Bev (Darold) Jones of Sylvan Lake and Murray (Judy) Sontag of Fort Macleod. She was the treasured Grandma and Oma to 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Dan in 1962 as well as by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Martha was a hardworking, energetic lady who especially loved the outdoors. She had a "green thumb" which was evident in her garden and the prizes she won at the local flower shows. She also was an avid and competitive golfer, curler and carpet bowler and enjoyed a game of bridge or whist at the Sylvan Lake Friendship Centre. She was a member of the Sylvan Lake Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Sylvan Lake Friendship Centre. A Memorial Service in memory of Martha Sontag will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sylvan Lake with Reverend Bob Wilson officiating. Cremation entrusted the Rocky Mountain Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, by Martha's request, memorial donations may be made to the Sylvan Lake Memorial Presbyterian Church (5020-48th Street Sylvan Lake, AB T4S 1C6) or the Sylvan Lake Seniors Centre (4908 – 50th Avenue Sylvan Lake, AB T4S 1C9). Martha's family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of the Red Deer Nursing Home for their kind, loving and professional care over the past 6 1/2 years. You are exceptional!
