WIERSMA

Mrs. Swanie Wiersma of Lacombe, Alberta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday December 25, 2009, at the age of 82 years. She passed away peacefully in Palliative Care at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center. Swanie was born March 19, 1927 in Wommels, Friesland to Jack and Gerbrig Hoeve, the third of six children. When she was nine months old she travelled by boat with her family to immigrate to Canada where they settled in the Woodynook area. After finishing school Swanie worked at the Red Deer General Hospital as a nurse's aide. On June 17, 1953, at the age of 26, she was married to George Wiersma. They lived and farmed in the Lakeside District for 56 years. As a wife and mother, she was active in her church and community, as well as a lifetime member of the Lakeside Social Workers. Swanie was predeceased by her infant daughter Sandra, her parents Jack and Gerbrig Hoeve, her brother Bert Hoeve, parents-in-law Okke and Maaike Wiersma, and brothers-in-law Frank Tolsma, John Salomons, and Don Wiersma. Swanie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband George and two sons Murray (Annette) and Raymond (Tracey) of Lacombe, 10 grandchildren Carmen (Steve) McKerrow, Lindsay, Amber (Johnathon) Nagel, Stuart, Meryl, Erin, Evan, Cole, Zander, Conner, one great-granddaughter Tori McKerrow, and two foster daughters Sandra Pudlo and Tammy Brown. She also leaves to mourn her sister Tetsy Tolsma, sister-in-law Wava Hoeve, brother Dave (Helen) ten Hoeve, sister Alice (George) Amunds, brother Charlie Hoeve, sisters-in-law Theresa Salomons and Sally Wiersma, brother-in-law Jack (Dottie) Wiersma and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Swanie will be held at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday, December 30, at 2:00 p.m. with internment to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe.
