Tanny passed away peacefully at Michener Extendicare, Red Deer, on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Tanny was born February 7, 1923, in the Hague, Netherlands, the oldest of four children. In 1949, she married Cornelis (Casey) de Koning, with whom she had two daughters and a son. In 1959, the family immigrated to Canada where they settled in Red Deer. Tanny took the nursing program at Michener Centre and continued to work there for many years until her retirement. Tanny enjoyed many happy hours in her flower garden and greenhouse. She thoroughly enjoyed cross stitch and we have many happy memories of her working on these. Her health slowly declined as the result of a stroke in 2007. She spent the last two years of her life at Michener Extendicare. Tanny was predeceased by her husband, Casey in 1985, and two brothers in the Netherlands. Left to mourn her passing are: Margaret (Doug) Samide, Rebecca (Max), Victoria; John (Marion) de Koning; Liz (Art) Humting, Kara (Bob), Maria (Daniel), Jana (Tyler), Laura (Blaine), five great-grandchildren, two brothers, one sister-in-law in Holland, and friends. Tanny's family would like to thank the staff of Household 33 at Michener for their excellent care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 16 McVicar Street, Red Deer, on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lending Cupboard Society, 5406C - 43 Street, Red Deer, AB, T4N 1C9.
