ALEXANDER, Thomas Thomas Joseph Alexander passed away peacefully on September 29, 2007 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center at the age of 87 years with his family by his side. He is survived by his eight children; Jim (Sharon), Pat (Patricia), Tim, Joan (Ted), Maureen (Tim), Sheila (Gary), Christine (Stan) and Vincent (Holly); twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his only brother Jack Alexander of Red Deer. He was predeceased by his father James, mother Sarah and wife of 47 years, Eileen. Tom was born November 4, 1919 on the farm west of Lacombe. He farmed close to his father's place until 1963 when the family moved to Three Hills. While there, they owned and operated a drugstore until 1972. They moved to Sylvan Lake where they owned and operated a hardware store until 1986 when he retired back to Lacombe. Tom was an active volunteer in his community as a town councilor in Three Hills and Sylvan Lake as well as being a member of the Elks and Lions clubs and a Knights of Columbus member. Tom would use any excuse to have all of his family come home for a get together so he could barbecue for everyone. He and Eileen spent their winters in Arizona for many years and Tom continued to travel after Eileen's passing. In his travels he visited friends from Alaska to Arizona and many points in between. In his retirement he was an avid gardener and supplied family and friends with vegetables, fruit and flowers. Funeral services will be held at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 5128-53 Street, Lacombe, AB at 1:00 pm. on Saturday October 6, 2007 with prayers on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 7:30 pm at St. Stephen's. If friends so desire, memorial donation in Tom’s name may be made to the CNIB, Box 101, Red Deer, AB T4N 5E7 or Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Box 5576, Lacombe, AB T4L 1X2.
