1920 - 2010
Tom Bennett passed away peacefully at the Southwood Nursing Home on Wednesday, November 3 at the age of 90 years. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his son Ben (Kim) and sister Gay. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Stella Rita. Tom was born August 7, 1920 in Calgary. He spent his younger years living in Red Deer. Tom served in the RCAF with 437 (Husky) Squadron in WWII based out of CFB Trenton, ON and was stationed in England. Upon returning from war, Tom spent 20 years with the T.E. Eaton Company beginning in Winnipeg, then moving to Lethbridge and finally managing a store in Red Deer. In 1964 the family moved to Sidney, BC when Tom owned and operated a Travel Lodge. In 1968 he began a long and lustrious career with the Kenny Shoe Company until his retirement in 1985. Tom devoted the rest of his life to his hobbies, his family, his gardening and golf. He was an avid golfer and a founding member at the Rivers Edge Golf and Country Club in Okotoks. A Funeral Service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South, (at Lake Fraser Gate) Calgary on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
