Sep 11, 1961 - May 7, 2018
"Let's go!"

Tim headed off on his next adventure on May 7, 2018, at the age of 56. He passed away in peace, and in hope of accompanying his father, who had died less than three days earlier.

Tim was born September 11, 1961 in Elnora, Alberta. He trained with brother Brent at the family business, Smith Repair, where he worked as a welder, and then moved to Red Deer where he was the welder for the Red Deer College Theatre Program. Those were wonderful years full of camaraderie, friends, music, darts tournaments, ski trips, and fun. Later, he returned with his wife to Elnora to partner with Steve Pennock as co-owner of Smith Repair, and enjoy the comfort and support of lifelong family friends and neighbours. Everyone appreciated his mischievous, dry sense of humor and his drive to challenge himself.

A Type 1 Diabetic since age 4, Tim acquired a significant brain injury in 2005 as the result of an anoxic coma. With typical determination he fought to recover as much as possible, and eventually re-settled at Carewest Garrison Green in Calgary, Alberta. There he made many friends and continued to appreciate the gift of life.

Declining health in recent months eventually took their toll. Tim was pre-deceased by parents Mary and Robert Smith of Elnora. He leaves to mourn his sisters Audrey (Richard) McMullen of Victoria and Patricia Smith (Paul Potter) of Red Deer, brothers Hugh Smith (Beth Polushin) of Gem, and Brent Smith of Elnora, two nephews and four nieces and their families, as well as Michelle White and many friends, neighbors and extended family.

A double funeral for Tim and Bob Smith will be held at Elnora Community Hall on Monday, May 14 at 2:00 pm, Kneehill Funeral Services officiating.

Donations may be made in Tim's honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or charity of your choice.
