Long-time Red Deer resident for 65 years, Olga Toal, passed away peacefully at 91 years of age on September 8th in Victoria, BC.

She moved to Vancouver Island in Feb. 2016 after living 2 years in Calgary. She was born in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, and at an early age her family moved to a farm near Andrew, AB east of Edmonton. She attended high school in Lamont, graduated from the Vegreville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and accepted her first job as an RN at the Red Deer Hospital. Shortly after married her husband Jim Toal with whom she enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 54 years. Olga and Jim had four children and led an active life in the schools, church and community. Olga returned to nursing in 1964 at the hospital but soon after took on a new job as matron at the newly opened Red Deer Nursing Home. She eventually moved from there to work as a nursing supervisor and infection control nurse at the Michener Centre, (Deer Home). She enjoyed her career in nursing, her famiy and was active in the church.

Olga was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2004. She is survived by her sons Terry Toal (Kim) and Mike Toal (Paule), and daughters Carol Toal (Don) and Pat (nee Toal) Ackerman; 8 grandchildren; Brian Toal (Aynsley) Kevin Toal, Meghan Toal (Bonar Buffam) Marieke Voorhoeve (Tyrone Maguire) Bryce Ackerman (Jessica) Karen Guy (James) Josh Toal (Lynsey) Katelyn Lindstrand (John); and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother Robert in 2016 and survived by her sisters Mary (92) in Calgary, and Helen (90) in Aggassiz, BC.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Deer, on Friday, September 28th at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Internment will be at the Alto Reste Memorial Gardens in Red Deer.
