VAHEY Mrs. Dorothy Eileen Vahey (nee Rodway), beloved wife of the late Mr. Douglas Vahey of Red Deer, passed away after a brief illness at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the age of 92 years. Dorothy was born on December 27, 1913 at Endiang, Alberta. Soon after, she moved to Halkirk, Alberta, where her father was a Canadian Pacific Railway, Section Foreman. Later, they owned and operated the Rodway “Deep Seam” Coal Mine at Halkirk. Dorothy moved to Red Deer in 1930, and her family followed soon after. She worked for many years at the Metropolitan Variety store and then at the Red Deer Lodge Hotel for many years. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was also a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 35, Red Deer. Dorothy will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of her family and dear friends. Dorothy leaves to mourn her loss, her long-time special friend, John Kendrick of Innisfail, Alberta, daughters, Barbara (John) Rozic of Red Deer and Darlene Woods of Kelowna, British Columbia, her grandchildren, Marta (Don) Knopp of Red Deer, Ivan (Leesa) Rozic, also of Red Deer, Dillon Vahey of Kelowna, British Columbia, Jordan Woods of Edmonton, Alberta and her great grandchildren, Rachel Sanders, Ryan Sanders and Faith Rozic, all of Red Deer, as well as her sister, Joan (Ed) Farr, also of Red Deer. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Harriet Alice Rodway, her husband, Douglas Charles Vahey in 1995, a brother, Ernest Rodway and a sister, Verna Healy. All are welcome to come and pay their respects and join the family at a Public Funeral Service at St. Leonard’s On-The-Hill Anglican Church, 4241 – 44th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at the Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Dorothy’s honour may be made directly to a Charity of the donor’s choice.
