MUNCE

Vera Marguerite

Nov. 1, 1913 - May 27, 2012

Our loss brings sadness, but remembering Vera can only bring joy. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and many other things to us. Vera began her life in Carlisle, Ontario, as the youngest of seven children. At the age of four, she pioneered her way to the Spruceville area of Alberta, where her family farmed. She always said that as the youngest, she didn't learn to do all the jobs, because her siblings did them for her. We know better, she was a wonderful cook, her home always tidy, and her garden produced freshly bagged vegetables left on our doorsteps. Who did Vera grow up to be? She was the wife and partner of Harry Munce for 65 years of marriage. Together they raised John (Evelyn), Eileen (Des), Bryan (Pat). She also had a few extra children that appeared for periods of time and were the recipients of some special love and attention. She was a loving gramma, who was always happy to hug her seven grand children. To them she was a teacher, who gave lessons in gardening, how to catch a ball or crochet a dishcloth. She always had tins of ginger snaps or soft raisin cookies and she always loved you no matter what. Vera had sisters and girlfriends. With her sisters Grace and Mable she loved to play cards till the wee hours of the morning, shop till you drop, and take some road trips. They were known in the family as "The Supremes". With her friends, she was kind, generous, and always available to help someone in need. She organized dinners and card parties and her home was the gathering place for friends and family. You could stop by anytime and feel welcome. Vera was a woman of strength and kindness. She loved to laugh at a good joke, accept a bouquet of dandelions from a child, or passionately cheer on her favorite hockey team, "The Oilers". She worried about you, encouraged you to do your best, and set a standard that we can only hope to follow. We will miss her immensely but are happy she has finally gone to be with Harry. We love you Mom and Grandma! Please join us to reminisce and celebrate her life on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer.
