1913 - 2009

Mrs. Violet Ada Wachter of Red Deer passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, November 7th, 2009 after a very brief illness at the age of 96 years. Violet, the eldest of four children, was born February 18th, 1913 four miles south of Fleet, Alberta in a two room house on the original homestead of her parents Frank and Alice Colson. Violet married Rupert Hillman on April 5th, 1934. To this union was born seven children, Norman, Marjorie, Eunice, Frank, Evelyn, Gordon and Kenneth. Violet lived in Fleet, Alberta and Elrose, S askatchewan until moving to Drumheller in 1958 and finally to Red Deer in 1967 where she resided until her passing. Her husband, Rupert Hillman, passed away in 1959. She married Alec Wachter on February 16th, 1974. Violet will be sadly missed by her six remaining children, Norm (Betty) Hillman of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Eunice Hewat of Canberra, Australia, Marge Wojciechowski, Evelyn (John) Bolin, Gordon (Joanne) Hillman and Ken Hillman all of Red Deer, Alberta. Violet also leaves to morn her passing her sister, Dorothy (Conrad) Schnell of Castor, Alberta, and her brother, Walter (Beth) Colson of Kamloops, British Columbia. She was so proud of her twenty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren, as well as Alec's seven daughters, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank & Alice Colson, her husband Rupert in 1959, her second husband Alec in 2007, a son, Frank Hillman in 1999 and his wife, Jo in 2001, son-in-law, Ambrose Wojciechowski in 2006, her brother, Horace Colson and a grandson, Trevor Hillman both in March 2009. Also left to cherish the fond memory of Violet are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and the many friends she made over her long life. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Thiessen as well as all the staff at Valley Park Manor for the excellent care and attention Violet received during the ten months she lived there. A Funeral Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Brown officiating. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium Ltd., Red Deer, Alberta. Memorial tributes in honor of Violet Wachter may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
