WALLS

September 1, 2009

WALLS It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Burns Walls of Stettler, Alberta on August 6, 2009 at the age of 89. Robert is loving remembered by his wife of 54 years Aileen, his children Lynda (Wayne) Carstairs of Erskine, Doug (At) Walls of Thailand, Lori Walls of Donalda, Bobbi (Gus) Rodgers of Flintville, Tennessee; grandchildren Sara Carstairs (Richard Fobert), Lana Carstairs (Josh Raczkowski), Matthew and Nina Walls, Nikki Anderson (Aaron), Megan Graham (Greg), Rob Blomgren; step granddaughter Miranda Rodgers, his step great grandson Andrew Fobert; and great granddaughter Olivia Fobert. He was predeceased by his parents John and Georgina, his infant son and 6 brothers Winslow, Colin, Clayton, Bud, Wilson and Maxwell. Robbie was born January 25, 1920 at Gleichen, Alberta, the seventh son of John and Georgina Walls. Sadly his father passed away when he was two and then his mother when he was three. Robbie and four of his brothers went to live at the Father Lacombe Home, Midnapore, Alberta. At the age of 10 he was sent to live near Cardston, Alberta however the arrangements didn't work out and he was lovingly taken in by the John C. Peterson family. Robbie grew up in the Cardston area and told many stories of his lifelong friends and their adventures. He joined the Air Force during W.W.II serving in England where he gained more friends and more stores to entertain his family through the years. After the war he worked for PFRA helping with construction of both the St. Mary's Dam in southern Alberta and the Gardiner Dam in Saskatchewan. It was at the Gardiner Dam site where he met his future wife, Aileen Holmstrom, who was the camp cook. Robbie and Aileen were married on November 16, 1954. After joining the Air Force again, they and their growing children were posted in France, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Goose Bay, Labrador and Edmonton, Alberta. He retired from the Forces in 1968 and bought a janitorial business in Stettler, Alberta. Robbie was a janitor for many businesses throughout the years and was working at the Nevis Gas Plant, when he finally retired at the age of 69. Retirement meant many enjoyable years of travelling, camping, enjoying his acreage and of course loving his family. Robert Burns Walls lived a long, happy life and he will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held at Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home & Crematorium on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ross Helgeton officiating. Doug McKay played the organ for the congregational hymns and the piano for some of Robbie's favourite songs. Sara Carstairs gave the eulogy; and daughter Bobbi Rodgers sang "We'll Meet Again" and "Amazing Grace" accompanied by Wayne Carstairs on the guitar. Interment will take place at Highland Cemetery at Lucky Lake, SK. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of sharing and a luncheon by the Evangelical Lutheran Ladies. Memorial donations may be made to the AB Heart & Stroke Foundation c/o Stettler Funeral Home, Box 1780, Stettler, AB, T0C 2L0.
