GUTSCH Walter Paul Walter Paul Gutsch of Red Deer passed away on January 18, 2009 at the age of 81 at the Red Deer General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Walter is lovingly remembered by his wife Reta Frances, and 2 sons; William (Donna) of Calgary and daughters; Lyndsay and Marissa. David of Red Deer and 4 daughters; Linda (Bill) Packham of Saskatoon, grand daughter Melissa Dias and great grand daughter Emma Dias both of Toronto. Patricia (Kelly) Mitchell of Edmonton, Cheryl of Red Deer, and Jacqueline (Dennis) Huehn and children Jessica, Kyle, Matthew and Paul of Bentley. Brother Ed, sisters; Esther, Rose, Margret, Irene, stepsister Edna Crewe and Betty Bavidge. Walter was predeceased by his sister Esther. Walter was born May 26, 1927 in Carleton Saskatchewan. Walter married Reta on June 12, 1952 in Camp Petawawa Ontario. Walter served with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1949 to 1973. He had postings at various Bases throughout Canada and Germany. Walter was posted to Korea in 1953 and served as a United Nations Peacekeeper in Cypress from September 1967 to March 1968. He achieved the rank of sergeant with the Canadian Military Provost Corp. After his retirement from the military, Walter entered civilian life, working with the Alberta Liquor Control Board in Wainwright, Calgary and Vermilion, Alberta. Walter was an enthusiastic, life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He and Reta enjoyed many excursions to the local Red Deer Legion, Branch #35. Walter was also a member of the Buffalo Park Lodge, no. 44, of Wainwright, Alberta. Walter never shied away from public issues and was a favorite letter writer to his local M.P. Bob Mills. Walter and Reta enjoyed living in Red Deer and developed many cherished relationships throughout the community. His soaring spirit and his love for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150 - 67 Street, Red Deer, on January 23, 2009 at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, at 12:00 pm. Internment will be held at a later date.
