HUGHES Walter Thomas Hughes, safe in the arms of Jesus as of July 29, 2008. Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Velma, daughters, Lavone and Carol; son, Gary (Lana) grandson, Jaye whom Walter helped raised; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grand- children and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was born May 17, 1924 on the family farm in Innisfail, the only son of four children. His life's work was on the farm, later retiring to town. Walter was a kindhearted friend, neighbor who could always be counted on to help when needed. In 1974 he married Velma and inherited three adult children and 7 grandchildren. It was no surprise that he was a devoted and loving husband and had natural instinct of a wonderful father. A very strong shoulder to lean on with a kind gentle hand to guide. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling and hockey, along with his circle of friends. He always seemed to have that twinkle of good humor in his eye, that went perfectly with his wit and bright smile. It was an honor to have him in our lives we will cherish his memory in our hearts until we meet again. Funeral service for Walter will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Chapel, Innisfail.
