May 21, 2009

WANNER 1929 - 2009 Raymond Wanner of Red Deer, AB, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 18, 2009, at the age of 79 years. Ray will be lovingly remembered by Anne, his wife of 55 years; three sons, Russel (Sharon) of Saskatoon, Brent (Marlene) of Red Deer, and Gregory (Sherri) of Red Deer; one daughter, Debbie (Rob) Grant of Morriston, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Dan, Rick, Ryan, Brad, Justin, Michael, Dayna, Zach, Sarah, Morgan and Raegen; as well as 3 brothers, Lawrence (Kathy) of Swift Current, Jake, of Red Deer, and Bruno (Chris) of Estevan. Anyone who knew Raymond would agree that he loved life. He and Anne were often found RV’ing with friends and family in and around Western Canada. He was very proud of his four children, and was always there while they were growing up to act as a spectator, coach, driver and as a general handyman. He took particular delight in spending time with his grandchildren and often babysat them. He was highly respected by friends and co-workers from his forty years as an oilfield electrician in and around Estevan and Red Deer. Ray was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and was an active 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Ray loved many of the blessings life had to offer, including the Good Sam Club, the Red Deer Rebels, the Calgary Flames, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, curling, golfing, country music, honing his newly acquired computer skills and fixing things that didn't work. A Prayer Service will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150, 67 Street, Red Deer) on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Les Drewicki officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's name to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, #101, 5208 53rd Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4N 5K2.
