Warren Neil Coates beloved husband of Florence Stephan Coates of Magrath, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritans Garden Vista, Magrath, Alberta on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the age of 81 years, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Cancer. Neil left this world surrounded by love with his wife Florence and family at his bedside. Neil was born in Radway Alberta on October 29, 1932. He was the second youngest of eight sons born to Annie Marguerite and Ritson Thomas Coates. Neil spent most of his life in Red Deer; you may remember Neil as the shoe shine gentleman, having had his stand in both downtown and the Park Place Mall. Neil loved to play pool and he was good at the game. He loved to dance and spent many hours dancing his life away at the Downtown Club on their regular dance nights. He loved to socialize and joined the "coffee club" at the Bower Mall and looked forward to his daily visits with his friends. After being a bachelor for 72 years, in June of 2004 Neil took himself a wife and companion, Florence Stephan. During the 9 years that Neil and Florence were married they lived in Red Deer, Bashaw, and Magrath, Alberta. They traveled throughout Western Canada, cruised the Caribbean and wintered in Florida and Palm Springs. Neil was a kind gentle man who will be greatly missed by his wife Florence, his brothers Cecil, of Langley, BC, and Allan, of Stony Plain, AB. He also leaves behind seven step children, 32 step grandchildren, 75 step great grandchildren, and 10 step great great grandchildren plus, numerous nieces, nephews and sister in laws, and their families. A Celebration of Neil's Life will be held on Saturday, April the 19th in Red Deer, Alberta. Further notice will be posted in this paper.
