Wijering, Gerard 1919 - 2009 Gerald was born on February 23, 1919 in Losser, Holland and passed away peacefully in the early evening of August 30, 2009 in Ponoka, Alberta at the age of 90 years. He immigrated from Holland with a young family to begin a new life in Canada. With his wife Truus, they established the family farm west of Ponoka. Gerald had a very strong faith. He loved music, reading, walks, nature and travelling. He will be sadly missed by his children: Annette (Pat) Burnham of Surrey, B.C., Herman (Joan) Wyering of Ponoka, and Pauline Becker of Grimshaw; grandchildren: Nicole, Michelle, Andrea and Mark Burnham, Daniel, Kathryn, Victoria and Colleen Wyering; Jason and Yolanda Becker; brothers Johan (Inge) and Herman (Mieke) of Holland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Truus, infant son Vincent, son-in-law Ian Becker, brothers August and Ben and sisters Dina, Anneke and Gusta. A Prayer Vigil was held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. Augustine's Catholic Church on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with Father Krzysztof Sobanski officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the charity of the donor's choice.
