February 3, 1943 - January 27, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Allen Riches, on Jan. 27, 2022, exactly one week before his 79th birthday.
Bill was born on Feb. 3, 1943 in Drumheller, AB. He was raised by parents Charles and Alice Riches, alongside younger siblings Theresa, Helen, Pat and Bert.
He married the love of his life, Jeannette and together they had three sons: Douglas, Daniel and Donald. He raised his sons with the same strength of character he demonstrated throughout his life.
For many years Bill served in the military in the tank division and as an MP with the rank of Corporal. This time in his life was followed by attending SAIT where he trained to become a Journeyman Millwright Heavy Duty Mechanic.
After his retirement he spent much of his time volunteering with charity organizations such as Meals on Wheels, The Special Olympics in Red Deer and The Festival of Trees. Of his many achievements it was his work with the Special Olympics and the people in it that he was most proud of.
He is also remembered fondly for his remarkable collection of M&M memorabilia, which always left anyone who saw it in awe.
Bill is predeceased by his parents Charles and Alice, his wife Jeannette, his son Donald, and his siblings Bert and Helen (Rick).
He is survived by his sons Douglas (Sue), Daniel (Corinne), grandchildren Devin Riches, Miranda Riches, Tessa Dorosch, Dallen Riches, and Cailynn Riches, great grandchildren Cali and Kaci, siblings Theresa and Pat (Glen), and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many.
There will be no service at this time, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics in Red Deer.
