William MILNER

MILNER William (Bill) Frederick Howard It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa and great-grandpa on Friday May 29, 2009, who passed away peacefully at Pine Ridge Lodge (Stettler Nursing Home) with his family at his side. Bill was born in Edmonton, AB on November 16, 1905, second child of five born to William and Annie Milner. He received his schooling in Edmonton and started working at a young age at a dairy in Wetaskiwin, helping farmers and working for cousin Harry Stevenson at the hardware store in Alliance. It was in Alliance where Bill met Rose Fischer and they were married in 1932. They moved to Stettler in 1933 and lived in the same house for 55 years. Bill and Rose were blessed with six children, three boys and three girls. Bill worked various jobs in Stettler before joining McTaggart Motors where he spent 27 years. In his retirement he enjoyed hobbies such as gardening and keeping a beautiful yard, washing and polishing his car and countless hours tinkering in his cellar. Bill is survived by his children, Fred (Evelyn) Milner of Stettler, AB., daughter-in-law, Wendy Milner of Red Deer, AB., Reta MacLean of Rimbey, AB, Carolyn (Clayton) Ness of West Kelowna, BC, Doug (Carol) Milner of Lindale, AB., and Connie (Larry) Daubert of Beiseker, AB. As well as 35 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-laws. Phyllis Fischer and Louise Fischer both of Stettler, AB. and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. Bill was predeceased by wife, Rose in 2000, son, Roy in 1992, daughter-in-law, Betty in 1970, son-in-law, Jim MacLean in 2004, parents, William & Annie, brothers, Cecil and Jim, sisters, Ida and Pearl. Funeral services were held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. The congregational hymns were "Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "Beautiful Ilse of Somewhere". Nephew Malcolm Fischer sang "Beyond The Sunset". A tribute was read by grandson, David Ness. Honorary pallbearers, were 'All Those In Attendance', with a light lunch and fellowship taking place in the C.E. Wing of the Stettler United Church. The interment will take place at the Lake View Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance or the Diabetes Association in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.O. Box 193, Stettler, AB T0C 2L0, who are entrusted with the arrangements.
