In loving memory ~

1935 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad and papa, William 'Bill' Welikoklad.

Dad came to Canada in 1938 with his mother and sister Mary. His father picked them up at the train station in a horse and buggy. His father had arrived three years earlier. He settled on land south of Red Deer and brought his family from Czechoslovakia when war was imminent. One year later Dad's brother George was born.

In 1957 Dad went with a friend to the Calgary Stampede and he met a cute girl early in the evening. The stars lined up perfectly, and they met again at the end of the evening leaving the stampede grounds and went street dancing together. The rest is history. Bill and Irma were married in July 1959, they made a humble home in a little house on the corner without power or running water.

Dad built their home on the hill in 1963 and enjoyed their life together travelling, golfing and welcoming family and friends for happy hour. One year ago, things got more difficult, and Mom and Dad moved to Aspen Seniors Care. They were a love story like no other, and still held hands wherever they went. The staff commented on how sweet they were to each other, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July at Aspen with champagne and chocolate. Dad passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre after a short stay. He was 89. His family was his everything, we will miss him. He is lovingly remembered by Irma, Jason and Jodi's family Claire, Will, and Jack Kathleen and Gord's family, Steven and Caitlyn and baby Grace, Emily and Ross Adam and Courtney In lieu of flowers please consider an online donation to Red Deer Polytechnic.
