WYNTJES With his family by his side, Johannes (John) Wilhelmus went to his eternal home on May 4, 2007, after a brief illness. John was born in the Netherlands on January 7, 1926. He married Adriana Pia (Jane) Majoor on October 21, 1950. In 1953, they immigrated to Saskatchewan. In 1957, they moved to a farm in the Red Deer area where they raised their eight children. John was employed at Michener Centre as a gardener for 27 years. In March of 1984, Jane passed away suddenly. In 1986, John married Doris Johnson and moved to Didsbury where they enjoyed 19 years of sharing their lives and families together until her death in January of 2006. After Doris’s passing, John moved to Club Sierra in Red Deer where he met many new friends and was re-acquainted with old friends. John enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and spent many hours volunteering for various groups such as Meal on Wheels and the Mountain View Food Bank. John will be lovingly remembered by his eight children: Christine (Michael), Joanne (Malcolm), Jack (Annette), Peter (Sheila), John, Ben (Cheryl), Barbara (Ron), Adriana (Doug); two step children: Kelly (Vicky) and Marna (Stewart); 17 grand children; 7 great grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Bill (Betty) of Red Deer, and 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and 2 sisters-in-law of the Netherlands, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Petrus and Christina; his first wife, Jane; his second wife, Doris; brothers, Bart and Peter; daughter-in-law, Miriam; and great grandson, Joel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Red Deer, on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow at Alto-Rest Memorial Gardens, Red Deer.
