YARD Mr. Thomas George Yard passed away in his sleep at St. Mary's Continuing Care Centre, Trochu, on Friday, March 25th at the age of 86. Tom was born in Nordegg, AB, July 30, 1918, to George and Ethyl Yard. He served in the army during WWII (Nanaimo, B.C.). After the war, Tom, his brother Lloyd Yard, and brother-in-law Jim Patterson (Grace Yard), formed the East Trochu Coal Company, where Tom helped establish a thriving business, working hard in the mine and delivering coal as far as Sundre. After the mine closure in 1960, Tom moved his family to Trochu and spent much of the rest of his working life employed by the C.N. Railway, working as a section foreman in Trochu prior to his retirement in 1985. Tom lived his life mainly for his family and friends and will be remembered for his good-natured greetings and visits, and devotion to his son and family. Tom was predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Godwin) in 1981, his brother George in 1991, his sister Grace in 2001, and his brother Lloyd in 2004. He leaves behind his sister Betty (Farcas) who resides in Calgary. He will be loved and missed by his son Russ and wife Heather (Hawkings), and his grandchildren Tawnya and Jeff. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church in Trochu, Alberta on Thursday, March 31st, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
