City council’s decisions give us confidence in the future

I am very proud of the leadership our mayor and councillors have shown in addressing some most difficult issues with which our city has recently been confronted during the unprecedented times we face.

Whether it was finding solutions so that our much-needed expansion of the shelter for our battered women could proceed, or finding the extra funding needed to keep Westerner Park in operation when there is precious little extra to spare, or most impressively, of almost immediately reversing its decision — something almost unheard of — and thus allowing an insurance company to set up shop in a fire hall no longer used.

In each case, these were very tough calls in which it was imperative that our council kept its sole focus on the best interests of the city, both for the present and for our future.

These decisions by our leaders have renewed my hope that despite our perilous times, all will be well in the end. For that, I am very grateful.
