Should Premier Rachel Notley buy rail cars to transport oil?

No. This is spending public, taxpayers’ money on equipment that industry should be providing.

Again, a case of government interfering in private enterprise.

If Alberta goes ahead and buys these rail cars and engines to transport our oil to the coast for overseas markets, remember that the rail lines are owned by Canadian Pacific and Canadian National.

Alberta will be paying a very high price to “rent” the rail lines. And pay demurrage charges.

It would be much more reasonable for CP and CN to supply their own rail cars to transport the oil. That’s what they are in business to do.

It’s always more cost effective to have those in the service industry supply and provide the cars and transportation, than to set up a whole regime of your own.
