Letter: Award well deserved

Kudos to Jerry Tennant for his outstanding leadership and management of the Red Deer Special Olympics organization.

Tennant received the Jim Thompson Award recently, which is given to a volunteer who exemplifies the spirit, the philosophy and the goals of the Special Olympics movement.

He has more than earned the respect and gratitude of the Red Deer group, he is highly respected provincially and also nationally. He has recruited very capable people to work with Red Deer athletes and they have competed very well in many sports. Most of all they have had wonderful experiences and fellowship together locally and with other groups.

It’s always an absolute treat to attend their annual Christmas and Awards banquet, where upwards of 350 people are treated to a wonderful and memorable event each year.

Forty years of dedication and achievement – wow.

Grant Howell, Red Deer
