Letter: Discovery Wildlife Centre

I read with great interest your front page article in January. I thought when I first seen the paper that the Advocate was giving Discovery Wildlife Park recognition for their great work with bears and to help celebrate Berkley’s birthday. But to read that everyone is critical of their actions with their well trained bear was hard to believe. I can tell these people have never attended one of Serena Bos’s bear presentations at Discovery Wildlife Park.

In her presentations she make it very clear how dangerous bears can be and that people should stay away from bears. I am sure that her daily presentations are doing a lot to educate the public about the safety issues around bears. I doubt very much that there is anyone who cares more about bears and works harder to get the message out than Serena Bos. If the video and newspaper article bring more people out to see Berkley and hear the bear presentation it should educate more people about bears. Is educating the public not the objective of both Discovery Wildlife Park and the critics?
