This letter is in response to a letter I read in the Advocate on Jan. 5 by Tim Lasiuta suggesting that I should not receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, where I work as an anesthesiologist, is dealing with the reality of COVID-19 infections everyday. This current wave has increased the health burden on individuals and their families in central Alberta.

This is a moment where simple gestures such as wearing a mask and getting a vaccine can save lives. These are small actions compared to the sacrifices previous generations have faced.

I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine recently. Your letter based on false information didn’t convince me otherwise.

Vaccines eradicated small pox and allowed a generation of Canadians to never experience the scourge of polio. This vaccine will allow me to continue to provide care for central Albertans when they need it most. I chose to follow the scientific evidence that vaccines do work and benefit society. I encourage all Albertans to do the same. Your neighbours and health care workers will thank you.
