Truly the discovery at the former residential school in Kamloops was tragic.

What is also tragic is that then and now, many of us do not take the time to understand and listen to what our Indigenous community has to say on the subject – especially now. Instead, we take for granted the sudden media focus. This issue was here and will remain long after the media moves on to the next story.

NHL goalie and First Nation member, Carey Price recently said “I’d advise a lot of people to look into residential schools.” Go talk to your Indigenous community members or look up the Truth and Reconciliation report instead of parroting comments.

We live in a time of division and protest. Reconciliation means restoring friendly relations, maybe now is the time to come together and celebrate each other’s differences. We will never all share the same experiences or preferences but we can all encourage one another.
