Letter: Protecting natural areas

The front page story of Feb. 15 Advocate is a sad story of altering a large land surface to suit new industrial buildings along highway frontage, plus a new residential area that will surround a 40 hectare lake.

The natural wetland area south of the 11A highway across from Hazlette Lake has already been redesigned for industrial development.

Treed and wetlands areas are vital for our future. Municipal governance is responsible for looking at public policy through the lens of avoiding further climate crisis.

Rather than more of the same, this new city annexation is an opportunity for a natural wetlands area of meaningful proportions.
