Letter: RCMP officers have a tough job

This letter is in response to an article in the Advocate on Sept. 25 which details an investigation by ASIRT as to what prompted the use of potentially lethal force by the RCMP officer.

This letter is in response to an article in the Advocate on Sept. 25 which details an investigation by ASIRT as to what prompted the use of potentially lethal force by the RCMP officer.

I have worked in the presence of the RCMP officers and they have a tough job with no respect from some of the people they protect.

This officer shot and injured the man. Why wait to see what he was going to do with the weapon? By that time it could be too late. The article states, according to the ASIRT investigation, a witness confirmed he heard commands from the officer for the suspect to drop a weapon before shots were fired.

These officers go to work every day and their families are not sure if they will arrive home for supper.

Maybe instead of spending money on an investigation, it could be better spent on recruiting more officers.
