Letter: Some people have medical exemptions from wearing masks

Recently I have noticed that here have been several letters ‘shaming’ people who do not wear masks or suggesting they are selfish or irresponsible.

Recently I have noticed that here have been several letters ‘shaming’ people who do not wear masks or suggesting they are selfish or irresponsible.

First of all, some people have medical exemptions and secondly, cloth masks are more dangerous than no masks at all. One trial on the use of cloth masks found that infection rates increased by 300 per cent.

Masks are fine in a medical setting where they follow stringent hygiene rules, but the same masks used in a public setting produce no significant reduction in the transmission of the virus.

If wearing a mask makes you feel better that is great, but please read up on the science.
