Sir, as we are forced to listen to the rhetoric being spewed out by our federal, provincial and municipal political masters of all stripes, we, the ordinary taxpayers, become more disillusioned by what we hear and see in all forms of media.
The call to save the environment, save mother earth, cut personal debt, save for retirement and on and on. As a responsible citizen, I like to think I am cognizant of how it pertains to my “carbon footprint,” even though I truly believe that there are a lot worse problems in the world than what we create in Canada.
To this end, I wanted to express my total frustration with our energy suppliers in Alberta. I use for example my latest energy bill from my electricity and natural gas supplier.
On my September/October bill, I see that my total energy usage was $21.51; however, the total bill, including tax, was $139.97, which covered all the transmission, administration, City of Red Deer charges, etc.
Now I realize that the energy portion of the bill was lower than usual because we were away for three weeks, but I ask myself, what is the point of trying to cut back on energy usage, when the companies are allowed to charge whatever they want to, and we citizens have no say in this part of the bill?
I know this is not a new problem, but it is something that seriously needs the attention of our provincial government before citizens are forced to take matters into their own hands.
