The fight to represent Alberta at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, Nova Scotia is down to a few familiar faces.
Calgary skip Chelsea Carey has her rink rolling at the 2019 Alberta Scotties in Stettler, with three straight wins through the first eight draws and a spot in the quarterfinal Saturday night (6:30 p.m.).
They knocked off Team DeJong 7-1 to start the bonspiel, before ousting Team Walker 8-6. They also topped the defending champion Scheidegger rink 7-2 in draw 5.
Scheidegger’s group is 3-2 in the event, after a 9-6 loss to Team Rocque in draw 8 on Friday night. Rocque is 4-1 and will face Carey Saturday in the quarters. Scheidegger plays Marthaller (4-2) on Saturday morning and Kaufman and Kezman are in the other game of draw 9.
Marla Sherrer and her team out of Lacombe were eliminated in the triple knockout format on Friday. After winning their opening game against Team Makichuk, they lost to Scheidegger, Kezama and Marthaller.
Also eliminated Friday were the Delia DeJong and Kaitlin Stubbs teams.
Draw 9 is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stettler Recreation Centre, with both quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m.
Semifinals will be played Sunday at 11 a.m., with the final at 5 p.m.
The winners will represent Alberta from Feb. 16-24 at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
