Red Deer native Katie Allen has signed a letter of intent to attend St. Cloud State University of Minnesota this fall. Allen was captain and the leader on defence for the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs major midget girls’ hockey team. She also competed for the provincial under-18 team and was invited to the Canadian national U18 camp. St. Cloud State, which was founded in 1869 and has over 16,000 students, competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. “Katie is a solid defender, great skater and has a good shot that should bring some offensive attack to our blueline,” said St. Cloud head coach Jeff Giesen.
