Nine players off the two Red Deer bantam AAA hockey teams have been selected to compete for the Central Thrashers in the annual Alberta Cup for players born in 1994.
Five players off the Red Deer Rebels Black and four from the Rebels White will compete in the tournament, slated for April 22-26 at the Don Hartman, Northeast Sportsplex in Calgary.
Defenceman Reid Stoyberg and forwards Brady Bakke and Brendan Dennis of Red Deer, goaltender Tanner Kovacs of Innisfail and defenceman Josh Smith of Lacombe competed for the Rebels Black. Netminder Adam Beukeboom of Sundre, defenceman Myles Peck of Lacombe and forwards Zane Jones of Olds and Luke Scheunert of Huxley performed for the Rebels White.
Other defencemen on the team are Shayne Gwinner and Jared Potter of Drumheller and Dylan Muhlbach of Stettler. Others up front are Ryley Bennefield of Wetaskiwin, Chance Braid of Wainwright, Ambrose Firkus of Irma, Dru Hickle of Hanna, Josh Kluck of Drumheller, Travis McEvoy of Thorsby, Derek Muhlbach of Stettler and Mike Winther of Trochu.
Dylan Forsythe of Edmonton is the head coach with Sean Finn and Jeff Owens of Calgary assistant coaches. Don Keith of Olds is the director of operations.
The Thrashers play in a pool with Edmonton South, the South and Calgary North while Northwest, Edmonton North, Calgary South and Northeast make up the other pool.
Play begins April 23 with the Thrashers facing Edmonton South.
