ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Second fastest was good enough for Rae Croteau Jr. at the Battle of the Rockies World Pro Chuckwagon Association races in Rocky Mountain House on Friday night.

His time of 1:18:72 in the fourth heat in the TOMCO rig jumped into the aggregate lead at 2:36.70 through two days of the four day event.

Chad Harden in the ConocoPhillips Supporting Farm Supply wagon was the only driver faster on Day 2 with a lap of 1:18.43, however, the time was only good enough to move him into fifth overall.

The Neway Oilfield Services Rig driven by Rick Fowler is second overall at 2:37.58 and Grant Profit driving the Ja-Co Welding &Consulting Ltd rig is third overall at 2:37.66.

The Battle of the Rockies runs through Sunday with the races starting at 7 p.m. today and then 2 p.m. Sunday.

l There was one incident on Friday night when a horse with the Brian Mayan outfit reportedly suffered a heart attack down the back stretch and died on site.
