Bauer defends Farmers title

Jeff Bauer’s defending championship foursome scored three points in each of the second and sixth ends Saturday en route to a 7-4 win over Garth Szakaly’s entry in the A-event final of the Red Deer Farmers Bonspiel.

Skip Jeff Bauer and his rink defeated the Garth Szakaly rink 7-4 the A event final of the Farmers Bonspiel at the Red Deer Curling Club on Saturday.

Jeff Bauer’s defending championship foursome scored three points in each of the second and sixth ends Saturday en route to a 7-4 win over Garth Szakaly’s entry in the A-event final of the Red Deer Farmers Bonspiel.

The Bauer rink, consisting also of Daryl and Mitch Bauer, and Tom Svanes, added a single point in the eighth end at the Red Deer Curling Centre. The Szakaly foursome, with Brian Whittemore skipping, tied the game at three with a deuce in the fourth frame.

In the B-event final, Don Bonham executed a final-rock, double-raise takeout to post a 7-5 extra-end win over the Gary Wagers quartet, which had Richard Foshaug at skip.

In the C-event final, Brian Ziegler beat Steve Ramsay 8-3, and Larry Ellenwood defeated Ed Rice 7-4 in the D final.

Rob Purdie took E-event honours with a 4-3 victory over Murray Stringer.
