The Sylvan Lake Gulls survive a late game push by the Weyburn Beavers after an explosive eighth inning to win 8-7 Friday night in Saskatchewan.

After the Gulls were down 3-1 midway through the match the Gulls couldn’t be stopped in the eighth inning, piling on seven runs to lead the game 8-3.

Weyburn however did not go away lightly scoring one in the bottom of the eighth before hammering in three runs in the bottom of the ninth nearly tying the game. The Gulls held on to a nail-biter 8-7.

First baseman Jaden Lamothe batted in two runs on a hit and Chase Rodriguez also hammered home two runs on a single hit.

Tyler McWillie pitched six solid innings striking out six and allowing three runs. Tyler Hampu came into the game in relief pitching for three innings allowing four runs but struck out six batters.

The Gulls had their first game of the Saskatchewan road trip rained out in Swift Current and on Thursday lost to the Regina Red Sox 6-0. They have two more games on their road trip including a rematch in Weyburn Saturday evening before going back to Regina on Sunday.
