The Blackfalds Bulldogs made a statement to the rest of the league Friday night in a dominant 4-0 win against the Okotoks Oilers.
With an opportunity to overtake the Oilers for second place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) South Division, the Bulldogs made the most of their opportunity.
Blackfalds piled it on in the first period with three goals.
The first came just over the eight-minute mark when forward Brendan Ross buried an opportunity, and with less than four minutes left in the opening frame, defenceman Evan Mitchell made it 2-0.
Minutes after that forward Jayden Joly gave the home team a three-goal cushion after 20 minutes of play.
After a scoreless second period, Blackfalds put the cherry on top of a 4-0 blowout when Joly notched his second of the game 8:20 into the final frame.
Bulldogs goaltender Matthew Hennessey was fantastic adding his second shutout of the season to his resumé in back-to-back games. He was a brick wall for the home team making 27 saves in the effort. On the other end of the ice, Oilers goalie Parker Sawka made 27 saves on 31 shots.
Saturday night the Bulldogs will travel to Okotoks for a rematch against the Oilers at 7 p.m. and will attempt to hold their position in second place.
