It appeared the Blackfalds Bulldogs were eager to get a win coming out of Christmas break.

The Bulldogs had an offensive explosion Friday night at the Eagle Builders Centre for a convincing 11-3 win against the Olds Grizzlys

They showed no rust scoring four unanswered goals in the opening period within six minutes off the sticks of Kody Willick, Brendan Ross, Jack Plandowski, and Jason Siedem.

In the second period, the Grizzlys finally got on the board nearly two and a half minutes in when Cade Moxham fired a shot into the back of the net.

Thirty seconds later the Bulldogs answered when Tyler Wallace ripped a shot for his 20th tally of the season. Wallace scored his second of the game nearly 10 minutes after to put the home team up 6-1.

Shortly after the Bulldogs made it 7-1 when Otto Hanson scored at the 13:02 minute mark in the middle frame. With minutes left in the second, Olds shortened to deficit to notch their second of the game scored by Niklas Gudmundson.

The Grizzlys’ maintained their momentum early in the third period when Liam Hughes scored a minute into the final frame.

However, Blackfalds weathered the storm when near the midway point of the period Bulldogs forward Layne Loomer knocked in a goal to make it 8-3.

The Bulldogs added three more goals before the end of the game scored by Kurt Gurkan, Otto Hanson, and Connor Dick.

Blackfalds goaltender Tristan Boileau was solid between the pipes and made 23 saves in the effort.

Blackfalds now sits in third place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League South Division standings overtaking the Drumheller Dragons with 43 points.

The Bulldogs will travel to Olds on Saturday to take on the Grizzlys in a rematch at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
