The Blackfalds Bulldogs are moving on to the division semifinals after defeating the Calgary Canucks four games to one in the opening round of the AJHL playoffs.

Blackfalds won the first three games of the series but the Canucks kept their season alive in game four on Wednesday 3-2 in overtime.

However, that’s as far as Calgary would get when the Bulldogs ended the series in game five at home in a 4-1 blowout at the Eagle Builders Centre in Blackfalds.

Defenceman Tanner Willick scored first midway through the first period but forward Tyler Wallace had himself an impressive second frame with two goals to take a 3-0 lead. Wallace had an elite series scoring seven goals in five games.

Calgary cut into the lead with a tally late in the third but Bulldogs forward Brendan Ross sealed the deal when he notched his third of the postseason.

Goaltender Matthew Hennessey was solid between the pipes making 26 saves in the victory.

Who they’ll face in the semifinals has yet to be determined as the first-round matchups continue on.
