The Blackfalds Bulldogs will play the first Alberta Junior Hockey League game in franchise history on Sept. 17.
Blackfalds will open the season on the road against the Brooks Bandits and play their first five games away from home. They’ll play their home opener on Oct. 8 against the Bandits at the newly built Eagle Builders Centre.
The AJHL will kick off training camps on Aug. 20 with exhibition play starting Aug. 27. Blackfalds will play six exhibition games, including a game in Stettler (Sept. 3), Lacombe (Sept. 10) and Penhold (Sept. 11), with all puck drops set for 7 p.m.
The league will also pilot a new project in pre-season play, with overtime consisting of a six-minute sudden-death period starting with three-on-three play, then moving to two-on-two at the first whistle after the four-minute mark and one-on-one play after the two-minute mark.
If the game is still tied, a best-of-three shooter shootout will follow.
Each AJHL team will play a 60-game regular season.
The 2022 AJHL Playoffs start on March 4 and the AJHL Champion will automatically advance to the Centennial Cup in Estevan, Sask. from May 20–29.
