The 15th annual Special Olympics Celebrity Breakfast is right around the corner.

On Thursday, June 15 Special Olympics Red Deer will hold the event at the Harvest Centre in Westerner Park with this year’s guest speaker Brittany Tran.

The fundraising event will begin from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 and the money raised will go toward covering various costs.

The Special Olympics is a non-profit organization that provides sports opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities. Some of the costs they’re hoping to cover include uniforms, equipment, transportation, accommodation, administration, and volunteer training.

Celebrity guest speaker Brittany Tran is known for her skills on the curling ice. The Red Deerian began curling at just six years old and her love for the game grew from there. At that time her grandfather took her to the rink to play in the little rocks league.

At the junior level, Tran won the silver medal at the 2011 Canada Winter Games and the 2012 Canadian National Juniors.

Since then she’s played in plenty of high-level tournaments including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts three times and is a two-time champion at Mixed Doubles Alberta.

This year she won the Alberta Women’s Provincials on Team Skrlik and competed once again at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts for Alberta.

Off the ice, she’s done work as a board member for UnitedWeCurl which is a charity that focuses on making curling an inclusive and welcoming place for all.
