Buccaneers 38 Stallions 5

The Central Alberta Buccaneers closed out the home-field portion of their 2011 Alberta Football League schedule on a winning note Saturday at the MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe.

The Bucs turned up the heat in the second half and stomped the Edmonton Stallions 38-5, improving to 2-3 on the season in the process.

Quarterback Byron Stearns tossed late touchdown passes to Jordan White, who scored on an 84-yard pass and run play, and Jamie Blinkhorn, to seal the deal. Blinkhorn and Marc Bartolf each had two majors for the Bucs, while Tylor Johnson added a field goal.

The Stallions’ points came courtesy of a field goal and a conceded fourth-quarter safety by Stearns.

The Buccaneers will take on the Drillers next Saturday at Grande Prairie. A win would all but clinch third place for the Central Alberta squad and a home playoff date. The Bucs close out their regular season slate July 23 against the host Edmonton Renegades.
