The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) announced Blackfalds Bulldogs forward Layne Loomer won the AJHL Rookie of the Week.

From Dec. 29 to Jan. 8 Loomer led all rookies with seven points in five games. Against Olds on Dec. 30, Loomer had a four-point night en route to an 11-3 at home against the Grizzlys.

The next day on a New Year’s Eve rematch in Olds Loomer added two assists in a 6-2 victory and on Jan. 6 in a 4-0 win over the Okotoks Oilers, the rookie registered an assist on Brendan Ross’ opening goal.

The Bulldogs’ four-game win streak came to an end last Saturday against the Okotoks Oilers but remain tied for second place in South Division and clinched a playoff spot.

This weekend the Bulldogs will hit the road with games in Whitecourt on Friday and Grande Prairie on Saturday.
