Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics have announced Natalie Buttle and Noah Carlson as their Athletes of the Week after a stellar weekend.

Buttle, who is on the Queens’ hockey team, won player of the game twice in back-to-back games against the SAIT Trojans. On Friday Buttle scored the game-winning goal to help the Queens beat the Trojans 3-1 at home.

The very next night the Queens headed to Calgary for a rematch and Buttle picked up where she left off. The second-year forward scored in the second period and added an assist en route to a 6-0 blowout on the road.

This season so far she sits with four points, two goals, and two assists in the ACAC.

The Queens’ hockey team is now 7-2 on the year and will be back in action this Friday in Edmonton against NAIT.

Carlson made his debut for Kings’ volleyball this past weekend helping his squad to a pair of wins against the Concordia University Thunder and The Kings University Eagles.

On Friday against the Thunder, Carlson started in the middle position where he contributed five kills. However, he took his game to another level on Saturday against the Eagles where he finished with 20 kills and player of the game honours.

This weekend the Kings will play a pair of games against Ambrose University on Friday and Saturday. The first will be at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 8 p.m. and on the road Saturday at 8 p.m.
