CACHS senior boys win 1A ASAA provincial opener

Raiders senior girls fall at 4A Provincials

The host school is off to a hot start at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association 1A Basketball Provincials in Lacombe.

Central Alberta Christian High School Knights senior boys opened the tournament on their home court with a dominant 71-52 victory over St. Mary’s.

Keith Tenbrinke had a monster game for the home side with 31 points. Reuben Wildeboer also chipped in 16 points in the win.

They’ll play Game 2 of the tournament Friday morning at 9 a.m. against J.T. Foster.

The CACHS senior girls lost a tight 48-44 contest to Marwayne. Macy Meinema had 14 points for CACHS in the loss.

They’ll square off against Hay Lakes at 2:15 p.m. in round two on Friday.

In ASAA 4A basketball action, the Lindsay Thurber Raiders senior girls dropped their opener against Bishop Carroll 65-57. The Raiders will play Friday in the consolation bracket against St. Mary of Calgary.

The Raiders senior boys opened the tournament Thursday against Magrath School and lost 85-61.

At the 3A event in Cochrane, the Wetaskiwin Sabres senior boys opened the tournament with a 79-60 win over Bowness. Camrose picked up an 89-67 win over Holy Trinity of Fort McMurray.

On the 3A girls side, H.J. Cody dropped their opening game 60-42 to Cochrane High School. Wetaskiwin kicked off their tournament against Morinville Community High School, winning 62-41.
