Calgary Fire White edge Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs for provincial bronze

In a rematch of their tournament opener, the Calgary Fire White got the best of the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs again.

In a rematch of their tournament opener, the Calgary Fire White got the best of the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs again.

It was another hard fought battle between the clubs for bronze Sunday at the Hockey Alberta Bantam Elite Provincials and the Fire White came out on top.

Calgary edged the host side 1-0 on day 1 of the tournament then 3-1 Sunday, with two third period tallies, including the game-winner shorthanded to earn the victory.

As she was to open the tournament, Kaylee McKay was brilliant again for Calgary with 32 saves in the win. Kiara Streich scored the lone Red Deer goal with 2:30 left in the first period.

Alysia Grotsky buried the go-ahead goal with a wrist shot off the post and in just past the 10-minute mark of the third. Sadie Kurrant added an insurance marker with 4:24 to go.

In the gold medal game, the Calgary Fire Red knocked off the North Central Impact to win the provincial banner.
