Calgary Flames hire coaching veteran Craig Hartsburg as associate coach

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames hired Craig Hartsburg as an associate coach Monday.

Hartsburg has 14 years of coaching in the NHL, including head coaching stints with Chicago, Anaheim and Ottawa.

Hartsburg spent the last two seasons with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.

He compiled a 74-54-16 record with Everett and was nominated for the WHL’s coach of the year award in 2009-10.

The Stratford, Ont., native played 10 seasons in the NHL as a defenceman.

Hartsburg played in the 1981 Stanley Cup final with the Minnesota North Stars and was a three time all-star.
